McDowell Education Center is a supportive learning environment providing foundational skills, career counseling and pathways to post-secondary training and employment for those pursuing their educational and career goals.
Adult education at McDowell Education Center is a grant funded program working in collaboration with Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation and the Department of Workforce Development for those individuals over the age of 18 (or 16-17 year olds who meet qualifying conditions) who desire to further their personal education, workplace, and career goals. Students can enroll to increase their adult basic skills, earn their High School Equivalency Diploma, earn nationally recognized credentials or certificates, receive English language learning, prepare for post-secondary readiness, or college enrichment.
McDowell’s guiding beliefs include:
The student is the focus of all educational activity
The best learning takes place when the student is motivated to learn
Access to educational options empowers students to take control of their learning
When academic programs challenge students, the intellectual growth of the earnest student is assured
When schools are safe and supportive of learners’ needs, students can achieve academically, emotionally, and socially
Adult education via McDowell serves students in Bartholomew, Jackson, and Decatur counties and proudly partners with WorkONE and WorkINdiana, Ivy Tech, Su Casa, San Souci, Cummins, Inc, Columbus Regional Hospital, Faurecia, BCSC, and more.
